Attorney Biography

Ryan Abshear brings a rare blend of high-level law enforcement experience, federal judicial training, and academic excellence to his legal practice. His background—ranging from high-risk military tactical operations to judicial clerkships at both the federal and state levels—gives him a uniquely well-rounded perspective on the criminal justice system.

A summa cum laude graduate of Southern New Hampshire University, Ryan earned his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a focus in Law and Legal Advocacy. He went on to obtain his Juris Doctor from the University of Dayton School of Law, where he served as a Teaching Assistant in Legal Research & Writing and earned the CALI Award for excellence in Interviewing, Counseling, and Negotiation.

His legal foundation is further strengthened by extensive federal operational training. Ryan is a graduate of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers, Tactical Operators Course, and Tactical Coxswain Course. Throughout his career, he has held leadership roles as a training officer, weapons officer, and operations officer, and was honored as Federal Employee of the Year for Valor.

Ryan has also gained critical insight into the judiciary through clerkships with the Honorable Michael R. Newman of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio and with Judges and Magistrates of the Greene County Court of Common Pleas. These experiences provided him with extensive exposure to motion practice, evidentiary hearings, jury trials, and judicial decision-making at both the federal and state levels. Ryan’s career reflects a lifelong commitment to justice, service, integrity, and excellence, with a particular passion for criminal law, civil litigation, and estate planning. When he’s not advocating for clients, you’ll find him fishing, traveling, or spending time with family.
